The Jovian Defense Force Narvi class refit of the old Solar Empire Conqueror class destroyer was an exceptionally successful missile-destroyer design of the late 1st Interplanetary War and post-war period. The problem was however, that the Narvi used a Type-2 Intersection Drive unit, and PHELAC beam weapons. These were viewed as being wholly inadequate in the mind of Edric VonStalin, the commander of the Pluto Republic's armed forces. He wanted a vessel that could make use of the existing fleet of Narvi and Conqueror vessels in their space navy, and so a refit project for the Narvi types of vessels was initiated in 2180. By late 2181, a refit, the Type-81DE destroyer escort, was approved for mass upgrade of their existing fleet and construction of new vessels of the Type-81DE model.

While the Type-81DE destroyer escort enjoyed a prestigious career throughout the Ceres Conflict and the Outer Sphere War, by the end of the Outer Sphere War it was clear the destroyer escort was reaching its limit in terms of ability. The Prodono Android fleet pushed the class's abilities to their limit to the point where it was obvious it could no longer be relied upon to perform the mission required of it (defending the Type-81DD Destroyer). Therefore, Edric VonStalin, keenly aware of the fact that they had a considerable number of Type-81DE destroyer escorts in service, chose to have them refit/upgraded again instead of building a whole new class of escort. The Intersection Drive was replaced with a Type-01 Super Luminal Velocity drive system derived from the Prodono Android type of FTL engine. Stronger deflector shield generators were added, but outside of that, the ship was essentially a Type-81DE. The 2nd Interplanetary war proved that the Type-92DE's missile weapons were simply too short range to be effective in combat with actual Prodono Federation or Republic spacecraft like the Raul Zhem Kai. As a result of this reality, the Type-92DE was the last ship of the Conqueror family of spacecraft.
