Description/Overview:
   The Outer Sphere War saw a wide range of warship designs tested to their fulliest against the Prodono Android forces. One of the biggest failures of the war were the Shinano class of Planetary Assault Ships. The exposed hangar deck, flimsy pylon supports, and exposed warp nacelles my have been fine for the 1st Interplanetary War and Ceres Conflict because the shields and armor were strong enough to withstand most attacks, but the Outer Sphere War saw the effective use of Prodono-style weaponry, tactics, and mecha. The illumination of the main hangar deck, used by the deck crews to see comfortably instead of relying on sensors or infrared, made a tempting target for attacking mecha and enemy warships. These shortcomings prompted the LaGrange design teams to create a new version of the spacecraft carrier that was less conspicuous and better protected. The main hangar deck was enclosed, the two main EMPAC maw guns (rarely used on the Shinano class) were removed in favor of greater internal volume for the housing of the warp drive engines, and for more mecha. The result was the Ford class of spacecraft carrier.
