DESCRIPTION:
              The third refit of the Byzantine class, the Mark III, was considered an absolute necessity after the conclusion of the Outer Sphere War. All battle data of the fleet engagements showed that the old Mark II was the cause of the numerous losses the Union of Solar Republics fleet suffered. The weapons and shields specifically were not up to the standards of the 2180s. Therefore, the whole of the Byzantine fleet was refit to Mark III types starting in 2189. The mass upgrade was a top priority for the Alkaid Republic, and by 2192 the vast majority of Byzantine frigates were Mark III.
