Description/Overview:
The Goro-Dei Type-180161 mobile battlefactory was the last of the Prodono Consortium style of spacestation colonies built before the Unification Wars. It was also the crowning achievement of the Prodono, as nearly all of their previous battlefactories were considerably smaller than this massive structure. The Goro-Dei was intended to allow the production of large-scale fleets of warships for the security and control of nearly one-third of the Milky Way galaxy. While the volume of spacecraft this battlefactory could construct may seem enormous by Earth standards, it was actually quite small when compared to the volume of space that exists within the Alpha and Beta quadrants of the Milky Way galaxy.
The Goro-Dei required enormous amounts of power for it to operate and perform its functions. Thus, the battlefactory was fitted with 1003 Obuch-Ron Type-18798-774936 fusion reactors, each capable of putting out 774,936 megawatts of power. The bulk of these reactors were located in a central spire that made up the core of the ship, running down the center from top to bottom within the hollow space of the craft. This reactor cluster powered the fusion
thrusters and fuel production plants of the ship. The other six hundred reactors were omni-route reactors that could reroute their power to any systems as needed, thus the crew of the battlefactory could maintain power to vital systems if some of the reactors were damaged/destroyed.
The Goro-Dei was mobile, thus it had drive engines that allowed it to move throughout the galaxy and subsequently star-systems. For interstellar flight, the Goro-Dei was equipped with one Z’Katan-Feul ZF-18897-50TW hyperspace fold drive. This 50-terawatt (50,000,000,000 megawatt) drive was capable of producing an equivalent speed in hyperspace of 10 light-years per hour in real space, which allowed the Goro-Dei to travel to any part of Prodono-controlled space within a reasonable amount of time.
The sublight engines of the mobile battlefactory consisted of six Vrlek-Uph-Kai VUK-35TW electromagnetic drives. The EMD system was chosen over a photon particle drive type engine because EMDs were omnidirectional, and thus all six drives could be used to push the spacestation in any one direction at speeds of up to 4,560,000 mph. However, this was rarely done due to the massive g-forces that could cause severe damage to any ships carried within the shipyards located in the hollow space inside the mobile battlefactory. The common practice when moving one of these huge structures was for one or two engines to be used to propel the vessel to its destination at full speed, then two or more engines were used to decelerate the massive structure slowly, thereby nullifying the effects of g-force on the craft inside the shipyards.
For orbital operations and travel between a planet and its moons, the Goro-Dei was fitted with 600 Gruel-Khan GK-17989-50000 fusion thrusters. Each of these thrusters could push the spacestation up to 760 mph, or 76,000 mph for all one hundred engines of any one arc used together, although normally these engines were used to fine-tune movements and to maintain a geosynchronous orbit of the mobile battlefactory around a moon, star or planet, and rarely used for travel unless an emergency required it.
The fixed armaments of the battlefactory were intended for defense only. They consisted of both standard blaster cannon turrets and disruptor batteries.
Six hundred Xergin-Tah Type-XT-21070 quad ion blaster cannon turrets comprised the blaster weaponry. These heavy blaster turrets were identical to those used on the Newel Xergis class of dreadnaught. These cannons were scattered all over the hull of the battlestation and were intended to be able to repel any spacecraft from escort to capital ship scale.
The 400 Urgoh-Tah Type-UT-20691 disruptor cannon batteries of the Goro-Dei were mounted along the equatorial valley that followed the sides of the battlestation where the doors to the main shipyards and hangar decks were located. There were 100 of these disruptors per quadrant of the spacestation.
The Goro-Dei used a legion of mobile weapons for defense and planetary conquest. For defense of the spacestation, there were 400 small-sized hangar bays, which each held 1000 spacefighters and 500 battlesuits. This massive number of mecha gave the station more than enough protection against practically any size force of mobile weapons that a typical enemy (of the Prodono Consortium era and Unification Wars era) fleet would possess.
There were also 200 dropship hangars, each of which held 800 fully loaded and crewed dropships. This was enough to conquer all but the largest of Solar Systems. Normally, these dropships were deployed when the battlefactory appeared over a planet and/or moon(s). The ever-present defense armada of space warships of the Goro-Dei would dispatch any enemy fleet of less than comparable size, and then the dropships would be deployed to the surface of the besieged world.
The core of the Goro-Dei was a large open area some 17,000,000,000 cubic yards in total volume. This massive space was used to store finished starships and damaged ships awaiting repair/service. At full capacity, this storage area could hold up to 4,250,000,000 tons of material. This could be anything from cargo ships to ore-mining ships to military warships or even the components for another Goro-Dei BattleFactory. Connected to this large internal space were the four main shipyards of the vessel. Each of these shipyards was capable of constructing up to 1,068,750,000 tons of spacecraft. Typically, each of these
shipyards would be in the process of constructing a sector fleet. A sector fleet consisted of 28,027 Raul-Zhem Kai class pickets (15,000 tons each), 11,200 V’lor Benai class escorts/battlefrigates (25,000 tons each), 5600 Quev-Leah class attackships (50,000 tons each), 154 Lurveth Throm class cruiser/battleship (250,000 tons each), 84 Jhor-Kiel class planetary assault ships (300,000 tons each), and 8 Newel Xergis class dreadnaughts (500,000 tons each).
Typically, these shipyards were capable of constructing 1000 tons of components per day per vessel under construction. For example, if the shipyard was starting a sector fleet, the picket force of 28,027 Raul-Zhem Kai class warships, at 15,000 tons each, would each require 15 days to construct, while the eight 500,000-ton Newel Xergis dreadnaughts would require 500 days (1.4 years) to complete. Thus, an entire sector fleet required 1.4 years to be completed from start to finish even though its pickets would be completed in only 15 days from the start of the project.
The Goro-Dei was a fully self-contained station capable of indefinite operation so long as a source of hydrogen gas was nearby. The fuel production plants of the station provided unlimited fuel to the fusion reactors, which in turn provided the necessary environmental conditions for the botanical gardens that kept the crew fed and the atmosphere clean. The stasis chambers held the vast numbers of mobile weapon pilots and spacemarine clones for the dropships, while the domestic population of one million enjoyed large staterooms for the production of families in the more traditional manner.
Overall, this massive fortress-colony in space was the first in a long line of Prodono-designed spacestations that only got larger as time went on. According to Doctor Xiang’s notes, the Goro-Dei was inspired by the large mobile planets used by some of the previous alien superpowers that once ruled much of the Milky Way galaxy prior to the Prodono Consortium.
(Goro-Dei Type-180161 Number-21, Alpha Centauri Depot)
The Goro-Dei found by the UNSC orbiting the fourth planet of the Alpha Centauri star-system in 2066 AD was horribly old but in near perfect working order when the expedition found it. Oddly, there was only a comparatively small alien fleet within the massive battlefactory and no cloned troops were to be found anywhere either on the station or in any of the spacecraft. It was as if the Prodono had intentionally stored the ships as derelicts. The condition of the vessels, also in perfect working order, was a complete mystery to the xenoarchaeologists who discovered them. Very little is known as to why the aliens left such a prize as a mobile battlefactory sitting in orbit around a planet with no one guarding it. Xiang surmised that the Goro-Dei Number-21 must have been too old
to be considered a useful military installation anymore, but kept in storage in case it was needed for some future purpose. In short, the Prodono were packrats, Xiang postulated, and thus hung onto any piece of technology (especially military hardware) that was still useful even if it was obsolete.
This battlefactory was handed over to the Saturn forces after the 1st Interplanetary War ended and was instrumental in building the colony ships and colony fleets that were used by them to expand beyond the Sol star-system into the local group of stars and beyond.
