Description/Overview:
         (ALL MODELS)
The Colorado family of main space destroyer was the primary ship-to-ship combat craft of the Earth Federal Republic throughout the 21st century. These craft were often flanked by two destroyer-escorts (usually of the Arctic class family of space destroyer-escorts) which acted as defense craft for the Colorado type warships. This group of three space warships made up a typical EFF/PASN (Earth Federal Forces/Planetary Alliance Space Navy) patrol/scout force. These craft were very capable spacecraft and moderately agile in an atmosphere.
         (Colorado class)
This was the first class in the line of main space destroyers that bears its name. This class of space warships was originally built by the Earth Federal Republic in 2068 AD. The EFR designed these craft as pure combat warships. The ship was designed to use the HSF-01 heavy spacefighter and it was equipped with this spacefighter up until the introduction of the SBR-01A1.
The propulsion systems of the Colorado class were four Rocketdyne FT-1500 fusion thrusters each capable of a speed of MACH 50 (32,500 mph), and a combined speed of MACH 200 (130,000 mph). This speed was considered adequate for this class of vessels when it was built.
The main reactor of the Colorado class was one Rockwheel RFR-20M, 20,000 MW, fusion reactor. This power plant adequately provided the Arctic with all the power the escort required.
The main weapons of the Colorado class were four turrets, each equipped with a LD-LC-600, dual 300 MW, Lunar Dynamics laser cannon battery. These turrets were used primarily against other destroyers and escorts and against larger craft combined together in a single volley. These laser cannons were not very effective against small craft like space fighters or battlerobots as their moved to slowly.
The main anti-spaceship weapons were ten, Bohing/MMI STL-02, space torpedo launchers. These torpedo launchers fired the SST-1M, 1000 lb short range space torpedo.
The Colorado class used six ND-600 nuclear dampners, built by MMI, as its primary defense systems. While these dampeners were adequate against most light to medium weapons, and nearly all mecha weaponry, they were inadequate against Capital ship armaments.
This class served in the initial phases of the 1st Interplanetary War, and almost all of them were upgraded to Patton class destroyers by 2075 AD.
         (Patton class)
The Patton was the second class of Colorado type warships built. Introduced in 2075 AD, this EFR ship was intended as a combat ship capable of using space battlerobots. The battlerobot had became the central mobile weapon system in the EFR space forces torwards the end of the 1st Interplanetary War, and thus the Patton class was designed to suit this new change in military strategy.
This class was also designed for interplanetary travel to all of the inner sphere planets regardless of their position during the standard Earth year. The old fusion thrusters of the Colorado class were not capable of performing this task well. Therefore, they were replaced with four Lunar Dynamics PD-12M, plasma drives. These drives were capable of speeds of up to .04C or KiloMACH 40 each (30,400,000 mph or 8444.4 miles per second, 4.5% the speed of light). When combined, these engines could propel the ship at .18C or KiloMACH 180 (121,600,000 mph or 33,777.8 mps: 18% the speed of light).
The four plasma engines of the Patton class required a massive amount of power to operate. Thus the engineers who designed the craft choose a Federal Energy FEFR-60M, 60,000 MW, fusion reactor as the ship's main power plant.
The Patton was armed with four turrets each equipped with a Federal Armory FA-LC-690, dual 345 megawatt, laser cannon battery. These cannons served the same purpose as the Colorado class laser turrets did, only these cannons were more powerful.
The main anti-spacecraft weapons of the Patton were ten Republic Arms RA-STL-02A1 increased payload capacity space torpedo launchers. These torpedo tubes normally fired the MST-1M, 1000 lb medium range space torpedo, but were capable of also using the SST-1M. The payload of these launchers was twice that of the STL-02 used on the Colorado class and other ships of the time giving the Patton a higher combat endurance.
The defense systems of the Patton class were six DF-300, deflector field generators, built by Warptron. These defense fields were primarily used for defense against attacks by enemy mobile weapons (spacefighters and ohter mecha) as their usefulness in resisting Capital ship scale weaponry was limited.
The Patton class served throughout most of the later half of the 1st Interplanetary War period, and during the Ceres conflict. For the first eight months of service the Patton class warships had SBR-01A1 type battle robots onboard for assaulting bases on asteroids and planets. However, the SBR-01R came out in 2075 and the Patton class was thus given these new space battle robots in place of the older type SBR-01A1s. The Patton class of main space destroyers were upgraded to the Galleon class in 2093 A.D.
