Description/Overview:
Unremarkable is the way Supreme Commander Edric VonStalin viewed the Valkyrie class cruiser after the Battle of Vesta in 2074 AD.  The Supreme Commander was not impressed with this class of vessel due to its lack of cruise missiles and its reliance on purely energy weapons for its offensive and defensive armament.  This class of ship was a very capable anti-mecha/light gunship platform that served well in protecting the UN Solar Empire’s carrier fleet forces from both Zhukovian/USR and EFSN/EFSM spacefighters and battlerobots.  This was due mostly to the Lithgear LG-RFL-502 twin 50-megawatt rapid-fire laser cannon ball turrets that were strategically mounted on the hull of the ship to repel enemy mecha.  This gave the ship a distinct advantage that previous UN fighting ships lacked.
The power requirements of the Valkyrie class cruiser were only slightly higher than that of the Triumph class frigate. Therefore, the ship was fitted with only one Hensai Energy HEFR-39K thirty-nine thousand megawatt fusion reactor, which provided plenty of power for the heavy cruiser.
The Pallas Research PRID-T2-800 Type-2 Intersection Drive of this vessel used the “Dr. Kommuna” Optimum-Warp-Field-Generation (OWFG) configuration for its graviton field emitter and warp field generator. This configuration was a compromise between the two previous configurations used on the Conqueror and Triumph class vessels.
The Valkyrie class used two different types of sublight engines. A pair of low-profile Eurospace HYIE-4000 high yield ion engines were mounted directly above a pair of Eurospace HYIE-8000 high yield ion engines. The HYIE-4000s were capable of propelling the vessel at speeds of 38,000 mph individually or 76,000 mph combined. The HYIE-8000s were able to each propel the craft at a velocity of 76,000 mph or 152,000 mph combined. The total speed from all four engines was 228,000 mph. This speed gave the vessel enough speed to travel anywhere within the inner sphere of the solar system.
The primary weapons of the Valkyrie were four Lithgear LG-PC-2002 dual 200 MW PHELAC turrets and a pair of Lithgear LG-EMPAC-500 Electromagnetic Beam Cannon turrets. Both of these energy weapon types were useful against Terran warships. However, they were all but useless against the alien ships of the early Zhukovist/USR fleet.
The main defenses of the ship were six of the then standard Cydonia Research CR-DF-1000 deflector field generators. These deflector field generators were considered adequate to protect the Valkyrie class throughout the 1st Interplanetary War.
After the 1st Interplanetary War ended, these warships were built in large numbers by numerous outer sphere powers including the Neo-Hebrews of Saturn and the inner sphere nation on Mars.  The total number of post-war Valkyrie class ships is unknown, however it should be noted that this class of ship was a favorite of spacepirates throughout the 21st and early 22nd centuries due to its pure energy weapon armaments that did not require resupply of ammunition.
