Description/Overview:
The UN Solar Empire’s Type-76 Heavy Assault Arthropod Tank was the brainchild of Premier Charles Dalltan just prior to 2074.  Dalltan pushed for the creation of a command multiped tank to lead the UNSC invasion forces during “Operation Blitzkrieg”, but the Soviet Elite rejected the design in favor of the Mark-II Project Ironclad fleet of intersection drive-capable spacecraft. This pushed the design and production of the tank that would eventually become the Type-76 into 2075.
The Type-75 was the first attempt at a scaled-down version of what Dalltan had requested be built.  After the Battle of Venus cost the UNSC four Type-75s, the final decision was made to implement Dalltan's plan of a massive command multiped, but instead of leading the UN invasion fleet, it would be used to defend Mars.  Five of these machines were ordered for the defense of the Soviet capitol city of New-Leningrad.  Four were ready when the EFSM and USR forces invaded the Red Planet; the fifth was only partially complete when the city was taken. This partially completed unit was disassembled and moved to Jupiter’s moon, Io, for study at the ex-UNSC research facilities there.
After the 1st Interplanetary War ended in 2078/79 AD, the newly formed Mars Colonial governments reintroduced the Type-76 as a city defense unit.  Each of the three Martian powers had twenty walkers.  These machines never left the cities they were assigned to protect (each of the separate Martian capitols).
