PRIMARY:
3x Eurospace HYIE-1500 high yield ion engines
SPEED: 76,000 mph each (228,000 mph total)
WEAPONS:
PRIMARY (OFFENSIVE):
2x Lithgear LG-PC-50 PHELAC turret; Effective Range: 400 miles; Payload: unlimited with nuclear battery clutch recharged from the vessel's main reactor; ROF: up to 9 blasts per minute in cycles of 1 blast per 6.7 seconds.
SECONDARY (OFFENSIVE):
1x Lithgear LG-CML-5000 cruise missile launcher; Missile Type: UN-SRT-5000 short-range 5000-pound computer-guided cruise missile/space torpedo (597.5 kiloton nuclear warhead); Effective Range: 35.1 miles; Payload: 6 space torpedoes in a rotary cruise missile launcher; ROF: 1 to 6 torpedoes.
PRIMARY (DEFENSIVE):
2x Lithgear LG-STL-800 space torpedo tubes; Missile Type: UNSST-01 short-range 800-pound television-guided space torpedo (95.6 kiloton nuclear warhead); Effective Range: 5.4 miles; Payload: 20 torpedoes each tube. ROF: up to 1 torpedo per two seconds each launcher.
ELECTRONICS:
1x Microwave Radio Communications array with a 100 AU range.
1x LADAR array with a range of 220,000 miles.
1x Passive EMS array with a range of 500,000 miles.
1x Active EMS array with a range of 50,000 miles.
1x Gravitational/Antigravity Control Unit; Effect: Provides artificial lift, g-force compensation, and enhanced maneuverability.
DEFENSIVE SYSTEMS:
6x Cydonia Research CR-ND-150 omnidirectional nuclear dampener field generators; Range: 15 miles hull; Power Requirement: 150 megawatts each; EFFECT:Random due to numerous variables. In general, the nuclear dampeners provided moderate to considerable resistance to energy weapons and were able to cause missile warheads to either explode or go inert within their area of effect.
HANGAR BAYS:
2x 800-yd3 exosuit hangars that each holds up to ten Type-39D-60 space exosuits (20 total).
Description/Overview:
The Petya class was originally conceived of as the main space corvette of the ill-fated “Project Ironclad” fleet of Great War era warships designed to compete with what the UNSC saw as a growing USSN threat of “real” space cruisers. Much of this hype was generated by captured data on the Juno class of space frigate, which the USSN did not produce until the 2160s after the end of the Great War. The Petya and its sister “Project Ironclad” ships were resurrected by UNSC Supreme Commander Edric VonStalin after he took control of the UNSC in 2171 AD. VonStalin demanded the production of the fleet of ships to combat the EFSN armada of space warships. VonStalin called for the three original “Project Ironclad” ships (Petya, Boikii, and Borodino class vessels) to be upgraded to incorporate the new PHELAC and deflector field systems as well as the high yield ion engine designs. The Soviet Council was in no position to argue with VonStalin, and thus the Petya class and her sister “Ironclads” were all upgraded to meet the demands of the 1st Interplanetary War.
The Petya class was the main corvette of the UNSC/Solar Empire throughout the 1st Interplanetary War. Eight hundred of these ships were constructed collectively from the combined output of the Vesta, Phobos, and Deimos shipyards. After the war, the Jupiter and Mars governments reproduced the Petya class in large quantities, but exact numbers are unknown. Estimates put the number of Jupiter-built Petya destroyer-escorts at somewhere over 2000 during the Ceres Conflict while Mars constructed some 750 ships.
The Jupiter Defense Forces used the craft as their primary patrol vessels and orbital defense cutters. The JDF classified the Petya class as a “torpedo spaceboat” and used it in this capacity.
