Overview of the Planetary Alliance Ross 47 Colony

          The Ross 47 colony of Xanadu was formed in 2182 AD by Planetary Alliance colonists from the PA founding member nation of Venus. The colonial expedition was financed by the Council on Stellar Relations and was part of Project Eden. It was generally considered an obscure and inconsequential colony for nearly a decade until the 22nd System Survey Task Force discovered the Prodono Colony on the fourth moon of the sixth planet of the Ross 47 star system (R47-P6-M4). This survey team was lead by the Golden Hinde, an ST-68I space transport converted to a mining vessel. This corporate owned mining vessel was an old United Nations Space Corps space transport attached to an IST-78 interstellar space tug (the Thor) which was a military spacecraft owned by the Xanadu colonial government. The security fleet of the 22nd System Survey Task Force was the Sentinel class heavy cruiser XSS Crusader.
          Due to the Ross 47 system's lack of any real military significance, and it being some nineteen light-years from Sol, the military forces of the small colony were in fact rudimentary. Initially the defense fleet consisted of the colony space fleet lent to it by the Neo-Hebrews of Saturn until such time that the colony was established. Once established a Planetary Alliance fleet of four hundred and twenty-five vessels were sent to the system to act as its military. The bulk of this fleet consisted of frigates, destroyers, and corvettes (370 of the vessels). This fleet was a vintage Earth Federal Space Navy fleet of the 2180s built to contend with Ceres Conflict era ships.
          The core of the Xanadu colony was the Township Class colony in orbit around the fourth planet of Ross 47 (R47-P4). The crown jewel of this colony prior to the discovery at R47-P6-M4 (The Moon of Good Hope) was the Majestic 07 biolab on the third moon of Xanadu (R47-P4-M3). Many historians credit the battle on that moon as the unofficial start of the 2nd Interplanetary War of 2193.
