Description/Overview:
         The Planetary Alliance didn't have the resources nor the access to the Prodono technology that the Neo-Hebrews of Saturn did in the early 2180s. With tensions rising between the newly formed Colonial Confederacy of the outer planets of the Sol Star system and the need of the inner planets that comprise the Planetary Alliance to replace their ailing stockpiles of MBR-01 and SBR-01 type mecha, a new machine was sought. This new mecha had to be able to compete with the Neo-Hebrew Protean-type mecha at combat speeds near a planet, space station, or within a space fleet traveling at that velocity (approximately MACH 30 or 22,800 mph). The new machine also had to have weaponry that was compatible with existing stockpiles of weapons, but also have enough range to give the proposed new machine an advantage against Protean fighters.
        In 2181, the MacDonald-Doogram company developed a machine that met the criteria of the Planetary Alliance Space Navy and was transformable as well which allowed it to be used on a wide variety of spacecraft, bases, and space stations. Jupiter's Nippon Military Industries was the primary contractor who built the VBR-81 at their industrial space stations in orbit around Jupiter's moon Io.
