Overview of the Jovian Defense Forces

After the EFSM went rogue in January of 2177 AD, the military units under EFSM control stationed at Jupiter and Saturn created a mutual defense force intended to protect the two gas giant planetary systems from falling into the hands of the Earth Federal Republic.  The JDF was not a government per se, but rather a military force akin to the old NATO force of the 20th century.
Naturally, there were two main branches of the JDF, the Jupiter Fleet and the Saturn Fleet.  Both fleets were comprised of EFSM and ex-UN Solar Empire warship and mecha designs.  However, the two forces used signature mecha that distinguished their respective fleets from one another.
In the case of the Jupiter Fleet, their signature machines were the HSF-02 heavy spacefighter and the MBR-01J and MBR-01JA main battlerobots.  The Io and Ganymede manufacturing facilities produced these mecha exclusively.
The Saturn Fleet’s signature machines were the PS-01A Archangel, PI-02 Raven, and PF-04U CosmoCorsair Protean fighters.  These weapons were manufactured at Titan only and were intended to provide the JDF with planetary assault capabilities should they require them in order to take back the various planetoids near the asteroid belt or Mars, which was considered a military target by the JDF during the last years of the 1st Interplanetary War.
The first major military action conducted by the JDF was in March of 2177 when the Saturn Fleet, under Admiral Hiruhiko Tofunai, engaged the EFSN armada at the Vesta Kirkwood gap. This battle also involved elements of the Ceres Regency fleet and was the first test of the JDF fleet against both the combat strategy and warships of the combined EFSN and Ceres forces.  This battle also helped solidify the use of Protean fighters as multi-role machines within the Saturn Fleet.
The Jovian Defense Fleet saw its second and final action of the war when a second EFSN, under the command of Admiral Bosch, invaded the Jupiter sphere in October of 2177.  This action proved the effectiveness of the JDF and helped solidify its existence for years to come.
The Power structure of the JDF consisted of a Board of Commanders and a Joint Chief of Staff.  Twelve members (six from each of the two fleets) comprised the Board of Commanders and were appointed based on years of service and rank.  The Joint Chief was elected by the Board and a general vote of all commanders of colonel rank or higher.
Determinations of military boundaries, duties, obligations, and conditions of joint operations that existed between the Jupiter and Saturn fleets were under the authority of the Board of Commanders.  This was imperative due to the overall ten year plan laid down in February of 2178 AD under the Titan Conference wherein the commanders of the Saturn Fleet agreed to relinquish control of their entire fleet of former EFSM warships over to the Jupiter Fleet as soon as the new Saturn Defense Forces were built up to operational strength.
The duties of the Joint Chief of Staff were mostly of a diplomatic nature, but the JCS also acted as the commander-in-chief of the Jovian Defense Forces.  As a diplomat, the JCS was required to act as an envoy to the other powers within the Sol System and to exhaust all avenues of diplomacy available to the Jovian fleets before engaging in acts of war.  As the commander-in-chief, the JCS had control over the activities of both fleets with regard to the defense of the outer sphere and the asteroid belt.  The Joint Chief of Staff did not have authority over the individual orbital guards and planetary defense forces of Jupiter and Saturn; those forces were under the jurisdiction of their respective governments.
The JDF became prominent during the post-1st Interplanetary War years as the premier anti-spacepiracy force within the Sol star-system.

Small Arms & Equipment

The small arms and equipment of the JDF were identical to what the EFSM and Solar Empire used because the UNSC planetoids, Jupiter bases, and NoWhere Station were all under their control.  These bases housed large manufacturing plants dedicated to the production of the combat armor and infantry weapons of the EFSM and Solar Empire.  It was cheaper and easier for the JDF to produce the same weaponry and armored suits that the EFSM and Solar Empire had used rather than expend the time and resources to develop new ones.
However, the JDF issued each fleet what their planetary sphere manufactured.  In the case of the Jupiter Fleet, the weapons, equipment, combat armor, EVA suit, and exoskeleton were all of UNSC design and were manufactured at the ex-Solar Empire bases at Jupiter.
The Saturn Fleet used the weapons, equipment, combat armor, EVA suit, and exoskeleton (Zack suit) of the EFSM as these were all produced at NoWhere Station.

Vehicles & Spacecraft

The vehicles and spacecraft of the Jupiter Fleet were nearly all built at the Jupiter, Hygiea, and Vesta facilities after Alphonse Zhukov and his band of outlaws handed over control of those facilities to the EFSM.  These ships were all of EFSM and Solar Empire design.
The JDF developed many new designs at the Saturn facilities on Titan and the other moons of the ringed world during the last year of the 1st Interplanetary War.  However, none of these were ready for service; therefore, the JDF retained some of the old standbys in the space forces of the Saturn Fleet.
The mecha of the Jupiter fleet consisted of the MBR-01A1, MBR-01T, MBR-01B1, and MBR-01C, all of which were built at the Jupiter factories.
The Saturn Fleet mecha complement consisted of HBR-01D, MBR-01C, and the Protean series of transformable fighters, all of which Saturn's Titan factories built.
The spacecraft of the Jupiter Fleet consisted of the Lord Nelson Class, Warspite class, Alaska class, Nevada class, Ogre MK-II class, and Kentucky MK-II class as well as the AS-01, and AS-02 assault shuttles.  These craft were all built primarily on Io, Europa, and the planetoids of Vesta and Hygiea.
The spacecraft of the Saturn Fleet consisted of two divisions of craft: the colonial fleet and the home-guard fleet.  The colonial fleet used the Kiev class, Chimera class, Triumph class, Valkyrie class, and Harpy class of ex-Solar Empire warships as well as the AS-01, AS-01D, and AS-02 assault shuttles.  All of these craft were constructed at the Titan, Iapetus, Vesta, and Hygiea factories.  The home-guard fleet of the Saturn forces also used the Kiev and Chimera class ships in addition to the Warspite, Alaska, and Nevada class ships.
