GOVERNMENT: United States of North America/USSN

Description/Overview:
The mighty Cosmo-Fortress Juno was originally a meager series of mining installations that were the property of the United Nations Space Corps until 2153 when the combined LaGrange/USSN Space Forces drove them off the planetoid. Once under their control, the USSN (with the help and support of the LaGrange Republics) began construction of eight heavily modified O'Neil cylinders that were 96 Kilometers long (approx 60 miles) and 8 Kilometers in diameter (about 5 miles). Each of these massive cylinders were hardened military structures anchored to the planetoid via three heavy space elevators that moved building materials from the mineral rich resources of the mines of the planetoid itself to the shipyards of the cylinders. The cylinders did not have mirrors, nor were they required to "spin" for gravity. Huge Tesla-Shauberger gravitational control units were built into each cylinder structure that provided .89 Gs on the surface of the cylinder, and .001 Gs at the center. Similar systems were added to the main headquarters on the surface of the planetoid. These structures took five years to complete alongside the massive industrial and military headquarters of the USSN that was built on the surface of Juno itself. The project was large scale, but the zero-G of space and the use of high technology machinery (such as electromagnetic tractor/repulsor beam projectors, graviton manipulators, and exosuits) helped move the completion of the Cosmo-Fortress to 50% by 2160, and 90% by 2169 (start of the 1st Interplanetary War). The Cosmo-Fortress Juno was impenetrable by Terran standards. It's eight battle-platforms were bristling with torpedo launchers, laser cannon turrets, and heavy particle projection cannons that gave it incredible offensive capability independent of the USSN armada of Kentucky attack shuttles, Type-59 corvettes, Juno class Frigates, and Saturn class heavy frigates. It's defenses consisted of strategically placed nuclear dampeners, and thick armor plating. With an unlimited military budget (due to the collapse of traditional economic systems during the Great War of 2149-2158), the USSN was able to erect one of the greatest military bases built during the 22nd century. It was however, obsolete by the mid-23rd century, though it did act as a diplomatic base and ambassadorial consulate headquarters for the Sol Alliance during that period and beyond.
