DESCRIPTION:
The George Mason class of space Dreadnought was the first attempt at an up-sized version of the Kongo Class Space Battleship into a command ship. The new design combined two Kurita type hulls onto a single massive "mating" fuselage. Once again a combination of USSN/EFR technology was married with shipwright techniques garnered from the former UN Solar Empire and LaGrange's findings from the Revenge class ships. The size of the ship was doubled accommodate the new systems which reduced the speed of the ship in both normal space and FTL-speeds, but the mission of the ship was not hampered by this reduction. The EFR forces wanted the George Mason as a Solar System Defense Ship, not a long-range space exploration starship. The George Mason class ships were built in smaller numbers than the Revenge and Kongo class ships; and consisted of hull numbers that were part of their own line: SDN-001 George Mason, SDN-002 Michinomiya Hirohito, SDN-003 Friedrich Wilhelm, SDN-004 Charles De Gaulle, SDN-005 Julius Caesar.
