Alfred Bester's The Stars My Destination.

This story is true Science Fiction of a Cambellian nature.
It is not "futurian" by any measure as it seeks to find hope for the future rather than failure of the human species.

It shows how the unlocking of a power of the mind can bring about near unlimited freedom.

An excellent and entertaining read.

I will have to check that out soon because I am a total fan of the human mind and its entirety.
Things like psychokenisis are what really get my blood pumping and me on the edge of the seat besides Fantasy.

If I might add another good top 10 (In my case) is Doctor Who and I just love how it is written (The old one, not this new age crap.)

Doctor Who (well the Tom Baker Doctor Who) was one of the shows I grew up with.
The cheesy special effects aside, the stories were excellent IMHO.
I particularly enjoyed the one where they adapted John W. Campbell's Who Goes There? into the Krynoid episode known as The Seeds of Doom.

So Alfred Bester was a real author after all. The only thing I knew about him was that Walter Koenig's character from Babylon 5 was named after him.

Yes he was.
BTW, here's a great short story you might want to check out WZA.
It's Joe Haldeman's Hero and it's excellent.
It is the story that served at the prototype for Mr. Haldeman's classic SF story The Forever War.
