Description/Overview:
         The Warspite class of heavy cruiser was a direct development of the Anapolis class of cruiser. The designers in General Walsh’s EFSM R&D warship commission had already completed and tested both the Nevada and Alaska class prototypes and were in the final stages of mass production of those spacecraft when they set to working on the development of the Warspite. The new cruiser was intended for use against all types of capital ships of both the UN and EFR with particular emphasis on EFR warship types due to the political events that had unveiled over the course of the first half of 2074. As it became increasingly clear that the Eudaemonists were against the continuation of the war and leaning towards a peace through diplomacy rather than force of arms, the schism between General Walsh’s predominantly Federalist EFSM and the Eudaemonist controlled EFSN was widening.
         However, the General had limited resources with which to build his new 3rd SpaceNavy. Therefore, the original seventy ships chosen to be rebuilt into his vision of a heavy cruiser class came from original Anapolis class ships that had been badly damaged at the Battle of Pallas in 2073.
         The Warspite was not a simple upgrade of the Anapolis; it was an entirely new class of ship. The old fusion reactor of the Anapolis class cruiser was insufficient to supply the energy that the power-hungry heavy cruiser needed. The newly developed ion plasma fusion furnace type power plant was chosen to serve as the main power generator of the Warspite class of ships. One Macrotechnologies IPFF-76K ion plasma fusion furnace provided the 76,000 megawatts of power for the heavy cruiser. No traditional spaceship fusion reactor of that era was capable of producing that much power at the time Warspite was laid down; only the alien spacecraft and spacestation reactors of that time were larger than the one used on the Warspite.
         A Macrotechnologies IPFE-48K ion plasma fusion engine provided the main propulsion of the ship. This engine was able to push the vessel at the extraordinarily high speed (for the 2070s) of up to .10C or 10% the speed of light (kiloMach 100 or 76,000,000 mph or about 21,000 mps). This allowed the heavy cruiser to travel interplanetary distances within the inner sphere of the Sol star-system quickly and the EFSM to dominate the battlespace of the inner planets during the middle years of the 1st Interplanetary War.
         A set of three Warptron FT-720 fusion thrusters comprised the secondary propulsion systems of the Warspite class. These thrusters provided a maximum combat speed of 45,600 mph (Mach 60). This was considered average for close-orbital craft of the era. These engines were combined with an omni-gyroscopic thruster array that provided enhanced maneuvering for the Warspite class of cruisers in space.
         The primary armaments of the Warspite were five LD-PC-600 dual 300-megawatt PHELAC turrets built by Lunar Dynamics. These turrets were identical to the ones on the Alaska class heavy missile destroyer. Up to four of these cannons could be brought to bear on a target simultaneously in every arc of the ship except the aft. The combined firepower of four of these turrets was capable of destroying an Anapolis class ship with a single well-placed barrage. This was intentional, as the Warspite was fully expected to engage Anapolis class ships in the coming months after the completion of the new vessel. General Walsh and his EFSM command staff were fully aware that if the Eudaemonists took control of the Federal government, then they would have to attack Mars against the wishes of the newly elected politicians.
         The Warspite was fitted with ten Republic Arms RA-STL-02A1 space torpedo tubes like those found on the Nevada class. These torpedo launchers were used for planetary bombardment, anti-ship, and anti-spacestation applications.
         The last weapon system was the Militia Military Industries EMPAC-10M 10,000-megawatt electromagnetic particle accelerator cannon. This devastating weapon was intended for use against alien and UNSC warships though it was also quite effective against the warships of the EFSN.
         The defense systems of the Warspite consisted of six Warptron IF-1000 ion field dampeners. Like the Nevada and the Alaska class, the Warspite was one of the few warships to ever mount an I-Field generator array. These six generators provided a considerable defensive shield against energy and reactive weapons. All six generators were capable of being overlapped in any given arc of the vessel to provide multi-layer shielding. While these defense systems were adequate for the time, they were eventually replaced in future designs.
         The Warspite class may have been designed and developed by the Earth Federal Space Marines for their secession from the EFR during the 1st Interplanetary War, but their real claim to fame came with the class’ service in the Jupiter Defense Forces. During the 2080s, the Warspite class of ships was all that stood in the way of the ambitions of Ceres. The Jupiter Federal Colonies had put the Warspite class into full production during the last years of the 2070s and the first years of the 2080s. An incredible 350 additional Warspite class vessels were added to the fleet of thirty-five craft that had survived the 1st Interplanetary War.
