Description/Overview:
         (MBR-01 "Liberator"):
The MBR-01 Liberator was the first battlerobot built by men of Earth. The MacDonald Company, formerly of Sydney, Australia, designed and developed the MBR-01 at one of the fledgling secret R&D facilities of the Earth Federal Republic in Antarctica called Doogrim. The Doogrim facility formed out of a need for a facility capable of building a craft that could navigate the wastelands of post-apocalyptic Earth. The MBR-01 saw its first real combat missions when the then new Earth Federal Republic began their rescue operations on Earth during the 2060s (2062 to 2069).
The main propulsion engine of the MBR-01 was one RE-01 robot walker engine built by Arctic Motors of Earth. The secondary propulsion was a pair of Rockwheel NRE-01 nuclear rocket engines. These rocket motors are used for limited flight on planets without an atmosphere, they are also used for booster jumps on planets with an atmosphere (200 feet maximum height).
The MBR-01 was a ground combat unit only and not useful in outer space.
The MacDonald-Doogrim MBR-01 was moderately armed. The main armament of the MBR-01 was the M230-ACR 30 millimeter auto cannon rifle built by a joint effort of Bohing and Militia Military Industries (MMI). This weapon was mounted on the right arm of the battle robot and was the basis for the first gun pod used by the other battle robots of this series. The main air defense weapon and secondary assault weapon of the MBR-01 was the Orlakon/MMI AC-R2-04 20 millimeter, four barrel, Gatling auto cannon. The MBR-01 was equipped with one missile weapon system, the MMI built SRM-01-G. This missile pod has a payload of 27 short range missiles with 10lb warheads. Most pilots of the MBR-01 used the Bohing/MMI M230-AC-GP 1 ton gun pod in addition to its other weapons after this gun pod became available in 2070 AD.
The main power plant of the MBR-01 was the Federal Energy FEFR-300 fusion reactor.
The MBR-01 served throughout both interplanetary wars and the Ceres conflict as a main ground combat unit of the Earth Federal Forces until 2085 when the MBR-01C was adopted by the Planetary Alliance Forces as the primary combat unit.
This battlerobot served throughout all three interplanetary wars and the Ceres Conflict as a main ground combat unit of the Earth Federal Forces.
         (MBR-01A "Avenger")
The RockWheel Company upgraded the MBR-01 in 2070 AD at their planetoid base, Gundhim, on Juno. This new upgrade was designated as the MBR-01A Avenger. This new version of the MBR-01 had improved ergonomics and used two SRM-01-G missile pods instead of one. The other missile pod replaced the M230-ACR 30-millimeter autocannon. The MBR-01A types were also equipped with the M230-AC-GP gunpod and introduced after the Battle of Ceres during the 1st Interplanetary War. One of the distinctive features of the MBR-01A was its use of “self-cleaning” elbow joints that did not require the standard polymer “dust-covers” the other MBR-01s typically used. These mechanical joints were very successful, but also required a greater length of time to manufacture than the more abundant “dust-covers.” The advantage of the “self-cleaning” joints over the covered joints was in the time it took to effect maintenance and repair of the elbow joints. This portion of the mecha required a great deal of maintaining due to the amount of use the arms normally got during combat.
The MBR-01As were common in the military forces of Mars and Venus after the 1st Interplanetary War ended. Production of the MBR-01 series began in 2062 with the original MBR-01, and ended in 2125 AD with the MBR-01U. A total of 155,000 original MBR-01s were built for military use prior to and during the 1st Interplanetary War. After 2085, private companies built the MBR-01 and the MBR-01A configuration for the private sector.
         (MBR-01B "Bombard")
Just prior to “Operation Clean Sweep”, the EFF contracted MacDonald-Doogrim to build a new, more heavily armed and armored version of the MBR-01 for the EFSM. MacDonald-Doogrim used the existing MBR-01 design and modified the chassis, cockpit canopy, and legs to accommodate the new requirements set forth by the EFF.
The MBR-01B Bombardment model went into mass production at the MacDonald-Doogrim factories on Earth at the end of 2074 and throughout all of 2075 in preparation for the invasion of Venus. The Bombard played a pivotal role in the invasion of Venus during “Operation Aphrodite” in 2076 AD. The MBR-01B battlerobots were designed to combat the UN hovertanks and mobile tanks of the time.
In concept the MBR-01B was virtually identical to the MBR-01 except for increased armor and the replacement of the AC-R2-04 20 millimeter four barrel auto cannon with the Bophors AC-P105 planet type 105 millimeter auto cannon. This weapon was the main artillery piece used by the Bombard. The M230-ACR was removed from the right arm of the MBR-01B and a small combat shield was added. The MBR-01B used the M230-AC-GP 30 millimeter gun pod as its primary weapon. The MBR-01B also used the SRM-01-G for assault/defense. The reactor of the MBR-01B was identicle to the one used by the MBR-01 and MBR-01A.
The MBR-01B was used in squadrons of 20 units at first (2074 to 2075) however, the MBR-01B was found to be vulnerable to attack by enemy aircraft, so the MBR-01B was intermixed within platoons of MBR-01 and MBR-01A units. A typical EFSM squadron of 2075 consisted of 6 MBR-01Bs, 10 MBR-01s, and 4 MBR-01As. The mission of the MBR-01B changed in 2078 to a purely defensive unit. The MBR-01B once again comprised squadrons of 20 to bolster the defenses of bases and cities on Mars and Venus who were under constant attack by spacepirates. Due to the large numbers of MBR-01Bs within the colonies of Mars and Venus, the MBR-01B was the primary defensive mecha for both of those colonial governments when the Ceres Conflict began.
With the outbreak of war in 2083, the MBR-01B again served alongside the MBR-01 as it had in 2075. Like the MBR-01, the MBR-01B was purely a ground combat unit and all but useless in zero-g. Production of the MBR-01B began in 2074 and ended in 2090. A total of 67,500 units were built during that time, all of which served in the three interplanetary wars and the Ceres Conflict.
         (MBR-01A1 "Avenger-II")
The idea behind the MBR-01A1 was to build a battlerobot capable of replacing both the MBR-01 and the MBR-01A. The MBR-01A had fought admirably during the first few campaigns of the 1st Interplanetary War, but the Earth sphere liberation and Venus campaigns had pushed the design to its limits and the EFF high command demanded a more powerful unit for the planetary invasion of Mars. Of particular concern was the presence of Type-75 Heavy Arthropod Tanks and SF-03 spacefighters on Mars due to their long-range weapons capability that had cost the EFSM many MBR-01s and MBR-01As during the invasion of Venus. The recommendations by the Earth Federal Forces high command for a new battlerobot were simply dismissed by the Eudaemonist-controlled senate and new President-Elect Beatrice Luxemburg. The EFF would have to make do with what they had if the Eudaemonists got their way. However, the EFSN and EFSM secretly convinced Rockwheel to design a new upgraded version of the MBR-01 at their Gundhim facility at the EFSN base on Juno. This new design was simply a MBR-01A upgraded with newer and more advanced systems.
The MBR-01A1 uses one Federal Energy FEFR-300A improved fusion reactor as its main power supply. This reactor is nothing more than an ugraded version of the original reactor used in the MBR-01.
The armaments of the MBR-01A1 were nearly identical to that of the MBR-01A, except for the addition of a long range missile launcher: one Norking SRM-03S space torpedo launcher. This weapon fired high speed space torpedoes capable of intercepting any type of atmospheric jet fighter or other aircraft. The range of the missile was such that the MBR-01A1 was able to fire the weapon before most types of UN vehicles could counterattack.
Rockwheel-Gundhim also replaced the MBR-01A ‘backpack’ nuclear rocket system with a new, more advanced single engine type. This new ‘rocket-pack’ used one Rockwheel TNRE-06 nuclear rocket engine. This single engine was capable of propelling the MBR-01A1 at speed of 600 mph for up to eleven and a half hours before refueling. This engine allowed the MBR-01A1 to fly in any environment, though its speed in an atmosphere was reduced to a maximum of 200 mph and an altitude of 1000 feet due to drag effects on the battlerobot’s bulky frame.
The elecronic systems of the MBR-01A were replaced on the MBR-01A1 with newer more advanced systems allowing for less power consumption and in the case of the RADAR suite, five times as much range as the original RADAR array. However the new electronic systems did little to help the MBR-01A1’s performance in space. The MBR-01A1 was intended to be purely a ground unit and performed that mission adequately.
The EFF refit nearly 60,000 MBR-01As at Juno during the 2076-2077 AD period at a rate of nearly 2500 per month. By the end of 2077 AD, the entire remaining MBR-01A force was converted to MBR-01A1s. An additional 65,000 units were built during the 2077-2083 AD time frame. Thirty-five thousand were constructed on Mars, and the remainder was built on Venus. These units made up the bulk of the defense forces of both Mars and Venus up until the end of the Ceres Conflict in 2085 AD.
