Description/Overview:
         (ALL MODELS)
The Arctic class family of space destroyer-escorts was the workhorse of the Earth Federal Republic forces. These craft were not the most rugged or reliable craft ever made, but they were inexpensive and easily produced. This was exactly what the EFR was looking for in a light space warship. The craft was originally designed by the old United States Space Navy (USSN) just prior to the planetoid impact on Earth. The Earth Federal Republic modified the plans for this craft and redesigned it in 2067 AD when their industrial capacity had reached the point where they could begin mass production of space warships. This family of space warships was built for ship-to-ship combat and the protection of capital ships within the fleet.
         (Arctic class)
The first in the line of main space destroyer-escorts of the EFR was the Arctic class. This ship was designed to provide the EFR with an escort capable of destroying anything in the United Nations Space Corps fleet. This design was much cheaper than the Ogre class and far better suited to ship-to-ship combat. The Arctic class served the EFF (Earth Federal Forces) from 2068 AD up until the entire fleet of Arctic class ships were refit to Texas class in 2075 AD.
The Arctic class used one Lunar Dynamics ID-1000, 1000 MW, ion drive as its main propulsion. The secondary drives were three Rocketdyne FT-125 fusion thrusters. These three engines were normally used with the main engine to provide maximum thrust in interplanetary travel.
The Arctic was armed with three, single barrel, LD-LC-180, 180 MW laser cannons built by Lunar Dynamics. These three laser turrets were used primarily against enemy spacefighters/battlerobots and assault shuttles. They were often combined to fire on one target simultaneously when used in ship-to-ship combat.
The main anti-ship weapons of the Arctic were six, Bohing/MMI STL-02, space torpedo launchers, identical to the ones used on the Ogre class. These launchers used the SST-1M, 1000 lb short range space torpedo that were ususally armed with either HEAP or nuclear warheads.
The main defenses of the Arctic class were six, ND-100 nuclear dampners built by MMI (Militia Military Industries). These deflectors were mediocre at best against light to medium scale warship weapons, and all but useless against heavy armaments.
The Arctic class was not designed to carry spacefighters or battlerobots, and normally only carried the ship’s three space shuttle in the hangar. However, EFSN task forces and patrol groups were known to carry five HSF-01 spacefighters in place of the shuttles during operations near friendly planets, moons, and planetoid bases. The shuttles were used as emergency escape craft and for ship to shore operations.
         (Texas class)
The second ship in the Arctic class family of warships was the Texas class. This class was simply an upgrade of the older Arctic class. The Texas class shared the same basic mission of the older class and was the primary patrol and policing warship of the Sol star system (our solar system). The main difference between the two classes was in the engines and power plants.
The Texas class used four plasma drives in place of the old fusion thrusters. The main plasma drive was one Arctic Motors PD-4000, 4000 MW, plasma drive capable of KiloMach 80 or .08C (8% light speed). The secondary engines were three Lunar Dynamics PD-2000, 2000 MW, plasma drives capable of KiloMach 40 each or .04C each ( 4% the speed of light). When combined, these engines were able to propel the ship at .20C or 20% the speed of light (KiloMach 200).
The Texas class required an enormous amount of power for a ship of its size (almost 15,000 MW) and was fitted with three Rockwell RFR-5000A, improved 5000 MW fusion reactors to feed its power hungry systems.
The armaments of the Texas class were three, single barrel, Federal Armory, FA-LC-200, 200 MW laser cannons. These turrets were used primarily as anti-spacefighter and MECHA batteries. However, they could also be used against shuttles and other escort craft if needed.
The primary anti-ship weapons of the Texas class were six, RA-STL-02A space torpedo launchers built by Republic Arms. These torpedo launchers used both the SST-1M 1000 lb short range space torpedo and the MST-1M 1000 lb medium range space torpedo. Normally the ship was fitted with the type of space torpedo which best suited the needs of the mission. Standard payload was 10 MST-1M space torpedoes.
The defenses of the Texas class were six DF-100, 100 MW deflector field generators, built by Warptron. These defense systems were standard on ships of this size and were unremarkable.
The Texas class served in the Ceres conflict with distinction and most of these ships survived that war. This class was replaced by the Seattle class in 2093 A.D.
