Description/Overview:
The first in a new generation of exosuits/armors that succeeded the old line of Exo-armors, which had culminated in the USMC-EA-45, the USSN-EA-59 Space Exo-Armor was built at the newly acquired Juno factories after the USSN had taken the former UNSC base in 2058 AD. The largest difference in the new line of Exo-Armors that separated them from the older series was the lack of a neural link system.
With constant war raging throughout the inner sphere of the Sol star system during the first few years of the 2060s, the old United States SpaceNavy forces found themselves being innundated with defectors, refugees, and unwanted immigrants from the UN Solar Empire. The USSN popluation was growing faster than their armed forces could conquer UN planetoids to house them. It was during this turbulent period that the USSN sought to reclaim the surface of the Earth and break through the United Nations Space Corps' hold on the Earth sphere. The USSN-EA-59 Jet Jaeger was developed to supply the tactical punch the fledgling Juno spaceforces would need for such a campaign.
This new machine was the first Terran built Exo-suit/armor to mount energy weapons. It was decided from the very begining of the Jet Jaeger project that the new mecha would use beam weaponry in order to maximize its combat efficiency.
A hand-held Norking LC-GP5 five-megawatt laser cannon gunpod was used by the mecha in its right hand. This gunpod was fitted with a power-cable that continuously replenished the nuclear battery of the gunpod from the main nuclear battery at a rate of 6 blasts per minute. While the gunpod was originally intended to fire in bursts, it quickly became clear to the engineers that the weapon would drain the Jet Jaeger's main battery down to dangerous levels. Therefore, a select-fire system was put into place with a clutch that prevents the weapon from being able to drain more than one blast every ten seconds. While the gunpod holds ten blasts in its own nuclear battery cell, this battery will be depleted after ten blasts and will require one-hundred seconds (1.7 minutes) for the Jet Jaeger's nuclear battery to recharge it.
Due to the short commings of the LC-GP5, the designers of the mecha added a second beam cannon. This cannon was a Norking EMPAC-8 8 megawatt electromagnetic particle accelerator cannon. The EMPAC had a larger "punch" than the gunpod, but lacked the rapid fire capability of the gunpod. Mounted on the shoulder of the Jet Jaeger, the EMPAC-8 was a very stable platform and thus useful as a sniper weapon. It also drained the mecha's main nuclear battery cell, however the EMPAC-8's nuclear battery acted as a capacitor that holds ten blasts. A clutch mechanism prevents more than one blast to be fired per two-second interval thus preventing the capacitor from being depleted before recharge.
In addition to the hard-hitting beam weapons, the Jet Jaeger mounts a pair of detachable missile pods. These missile pod units are carried outside the craft and are stand alone systems that provide additional firepower to the mecha. Each of the USSN-ML803 triple-shot missile launcher pods carries three Mark-80 short-range computer guided missiles each armed with one 80-pound HEAP (High Explosive Armor Piercing) warhead. The missiles of these launchers were each capable of destroying an SF-01 or severely damaging an AS-01 with a single hit, and that was the designers intention. The USSN knew full well by 2059 that the UNSC forces would be difficult to overcome if they were going to ensure their survival in space.
Planetoid assault was another mission the Jet Jaeger was intended to perform. Therefore, an anti-tank weapon system was added to the arsenal of the Exo-armor. Four USSN-KPG-12 12-inch diameter kinetic plasma grenade launchers were mounted two on each forearm of the mecha. These plasma grenades were capable of inflicting considerable damage to the Type-35 and Type-43 main battle tanks of the UNSC. These grenades could also inflict major damage to the dreaded Type-55 hover tanks.
The Jet Jaeger was the first Exo-suit to use nuclear dampeners for defense. These systems increased the survivability of the mecha considerably. Six Norking ND-0.5 .5-megawatt nuclear dampener generators were mounted in strategic locations on the machine in order to provide 360° protection around the mecha.
While the USSN-EA-59 Jet Jaeger predates the MBR-01 by only three years, it was superior to the MBR-01 Main Battle Robot in firepower, defense systems, and electronics, but not in armor. There was a push by the USSN high command to mass produce the Jet Jaeger for use by the EFSM forces during the 1st Interplanetary War. However, the supreme commander of the USSN forces (now the EFSN), Commodore Carl Webb, chose to keep the Jet Jaeger under USSN/EFSN control and thus the machine was only produced at Juno for the spacenavy.
